D-Aspartic Acid

The human body contains several molecules that help in its functioning. Above everything else, amino acids are known to be the building blocks of proteins, neurotransmitters, and hormones. These acids come in various forms, of which D-aspartic acid plays a major role.

So, as a man, what does D-aspartic acid do to you? If this is one of the questions that have been lingering in your mind for a long time, don’t worry. Here, you will find out all you need to know about D-aspartic acid and its important functions.

What Is D-Aspartic Acid?

Before getting into the details, let’s quickly take a look at what D-Aspartic acid actually is. Unlike L-aspartic acid, which may help build proteins, D-aspartic acid may help in releasing and making hormones.

That’s right. This acid may be able to increase a hormone’s release in the brain. This will then ultimately lead to the production of testosterone.

Moreover, D-aspartic acid may play quite the role when it comes to increasing the production of testosterone and releasing it into the testicles! This is one of the main reasons why you will find this acid present in many supplements that boost testosterone.

D-Aspartic Acid A Testosterone Booster

Is D-Aspartic Acid A Testosterone Booster?

Whether D-aspartic acid boosts testosterone or not is still highly debated. In fact, several research has come up with mixed results for the same. Let’s take a look at some of them below.

In one study, 23 men between the ages of 27 and 37 who take D-aspartic supplements were examined for 12 days. The results showed 20 men with higher testosterone levels with a 42% increase. After discontinuing the supplement for three days, the testosterone level was still higher by 22% than it was in the beginning.

Another study was conducted to find out the effects of D-aspartic acid on 28 obese men. Here, most of them did not show any signs of an increase in the testosterone level. However, a few men with low levels saw an increase by 20%.

A different study was conducted for men between the ages of 27 and 43 to know the supplement’s effects on those who take it for more than a month. A continued intake of the supplement for 90 days showed a boost in testosterone level by 30% to 60%.

Studies proved that there was no testosterone level increase for weight trainers who took it for a month for physically active men.

Taking these studies into consideration, it can be said that men with low testosterone levels may see an increase in the testosterone level.

But when it comes to active men who are into hard-core weight training, there may be no increase at all. However, you also need to keep in mind that such supplements work differently on different people. So, as opposed to the research, you may be able to see a boost in your testosterone level if you are physically active.

Does D-Aspartic Acid Increase Sperm Count?

Now, you may have heard that D-aspartic acid helps increase sperm count. Although there are not many studies to back it up, this may actually be true.

A study involving 60 men with less sperm count was conducted for three months. After starting to take the supplement, there was an increase in the count. Not only that, but there was also an improvement in the sperm’s ability to move. This evidence is backed by the fact that the pregnancy rate of these men saw an increase. In fact, as many as 27% of the men were able to become pregnant.

So, even though there needs to be more research for whether D-aspartic acid increases sperm count or not, current evidence points that it may improve the quality and quantity of sperm.

What Are The Benefits of D-Aspartic Acid?

Now that you have an idea about what D-aspartic acid is and its functions, let’s take a look at how you can benefit from this supplement:

Helps provide better sleep

When your testosterone level is high, you may be looking at having a good night’s sleep. This also means that you will be active and fit with a high level of energy throughout the day. Not only that, but you will also be entitled to better health conditions.

Promotes blood circulation

Once you see a boost in your testosterone level with the help of DAA, it will promote even blood circulation. This means that it will help in the delivery of oxygen to your muscles. So, you are looking at better endurance while exercising, as well as the ability to actually build up your muscles.

Spikes the energy level

Thirdly, if D-aspartic acid increases your testosterone level, you will be able to notice a spike in your body’s energy level! This means that you can be physically active while having the strength and endurance to work out more.

Are There Any Side Effects?

There’s no denying that some medicines or supplements come with side effects. As such, there are also some side effects for those who take DAA supplements. For instance, you may be prone to nervousness, headache, or irritability.

However, a study was conducted for men who took DAA supplements for 90 days. It concluded that there were no such side effects when it comes to its usage.

So, the side effects of D-aspartic acid supplements are still under scrutiny. Moreover, most research concludes that the possibility of such is invalid.

Conclusion

Although there are mixed responses for D-aspartic acid when it comes to boosting testosterone, you may as well give it a go. As mentioned above, D-aspartic acid may be safe for consumption for as many as 90 days. Indeed, there needs to be more research to back it up.

However, overall, it is safe to assume that DAA may be worthwhile. So, when you are looking forward to boosting your testosterone level and balancing your hormones, D-aspartic acid may be the way to go!
